I am running for re-election to represent you on Durango’s City Council because our community deserves a City Council focused on the future.
Durango has been my home for almost four decades. I raised three great kids here. I founded and expanded my architecture business, Brookie Architecture and Planning, Inc., in Durango and I have seen our city grow. I have helped design that development without losing the close-knit sense of community that makes Durango special.
As an architect and planner, I know our success is based on problem-solving and consensus-building. In fact, I’ve led community projects on land-use planning, historic preservation, affordable housing, educational facilities and programs, recreation and open space development, health care facility planning and design, local transportation, and municipal facilities right here in Durango.
In 2015, I served as mayor during the devastation caused by the Gold King mine spill. It was a privilege to represent our community from the banks of the Animas River to our state and nation’s capitol. Through hard work, collaboration, negotiation and some serious "politicking," we were able to secure funds necessary to clean-up the Animas and prevent future spills of its kind. I was proud to stand up for Durango’s environmental quality and economic vitality and if re-elected will continue to foster long-term policies that sustain our dynamic community for generations to come.
I would be honored to receive your vote for re-election to Durango City Council.
Thank You,
Dean
